A new two-bay, full-service fire station designed for the Castlewood Fire Protection District. The station is located southwest of Denver in the exclusive residential community of Castle Pines. The building's materials, massing, and site treatment were required to be compatible with the surrounding residential community while also conveying a sense of a public / civic structure. The client's design parameters included incorporation of passive solar design technology.

The building configuration is comprised of two stories that step into the sloping site and minimize physical disruptions of the natural site. Exterior materials consist of natural stone masonry, wood, glass, and stucco. The site design preserves existing native vegetation, including mature pine trees and a stand of scrub oak. The station amenities include sleeping rooms, exercise room, study room, full kitchen, and a biological decontamination area.

The Castlewood Fire Department encourages interaction with the community through its provisions for space within the station utilized by Castle Pines Emergency Services. A front lobby open to the public for visits and distribution of information.
