An
exciting project, this newly constructed learning center is located in the heart
of one of the city's largest public housing developments. It stands as an icon
to a segment of the community in need of many services. WSA's Team provided Architecture,
Interior Design, Structural, Civil and Mechanical Engineering, and Landscape Architecture.
The new two-story clerestory entrance was designed to provide natural lighting
and a contemporary ambiance. Various groups occupy this space including Head Start
and Community Services. The interior utilizes a playful mix of materials in the
daycare facility, blending into more professional finishes in the community portions
of the building. This
project received a national honor: The Agency Award of Excellence in Project Design
- New Design from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials
(NAHRO).
